Maribeth Walsh

Maribeth Walsh is Vice President and National Divisional Underwriting Counsel at First American and has more than 25 years of experience in the title insurance industry. In her current role, Maribeth provides underwriting guidance and assistance to the company’s Direct Operations and national agency network on a broad range of commercial and residential title matters. She also chairs First American’s Waterways Practice Group, focusing on complex title and underwriting issues relating to waterways, riparian and littoral rights, submerged lands, and related property interests.

Maribeth joined First American in 2015. Before joining the company, she served as Senior Underwriting Counsel for two New York-based title agencies, concentrating on complex national commercial transactions. Earlier in her career, she held various counsel positions with leading national title insurance underwriters, practiced law as a partner in a New York law firm, and provided consulting services to the financial services industry. Her experience across national underwriting, title agency practice, private practice, and financial services gives her a broad perspective on complex real estate transactions and title insurance risk.

During her tenure at First American, Maribeth has also supported the development of underwriting talent across the company, serving as a mentor in First American’s Underwriting Bridge Program and Developing Underwriters Practice Group.

Maribeth is an active member of the American Land Title Association (ALTA) and the New York State Land Title Association. She serves on ALTA’s Title Counsel and Best Practices Work Groups and is a frequent speaker on title insurance, underwriting, and real estate topics for national and regional audiences.

Maribeth received her Bachelor of Arts from the College of the Holy Cross in Worcester, Massachusetts, and her Juris Doctor from St. John’s University School of Law in New York. She is based in New York.
