Pat is President of TitleSouth. TitleSouth is a full-service title insurance policy issuing agent of Stewart Title Guaranty Company. Both TitleSouth is a subsidiary of HomeServices of America, Inc., a Berkshire-Hathaway affiliate. Prior to joining TitleSouth, Pat was a partner in the Birmingham, Alabama law firm of Dominick, Fletcher, Yeilding, Wood and Lloyd, P.A. (now Dominick Feld, Hyde, P.C.), and, earlier, at the firm of Strickland, Smith & Wagnon. Pat's private practice focused on real estate related matters, including residential and commercial real estate closings, real estate related litigation, and title insurance claims defense, along with entity formation and representation of individual and corporate clients before the Internal Revenue Service and Alabama Department of Revenue. Pat frequently addresses real estate and title insurance industry and trade groups. He has spoken at Stewart Title's Alabama-Mississippi agents? TIPS seminar on numerous occasions. Along with Stewart Title Alabama State Manager Warren Laird, he addressed the 2010 American Land Title Association Business Strategies Conference and has spoken and served as a panelist at Real Estate Settlement Provider's Council (RESPRO) Compliance Seminars. Mr. Smith has addressed Stewart Title's Networking and Technology Conference and the Alabama Bar Association's Annual Meeting. Pat also has served as a speaker for CLE Alabama, the Cumberland School of Law and Birmingham Bar Association CLE seminars, and has presented CLE classes on Complex Section 1031 Transactions and Boundary Law and Boundary Dispute Resolution. Pat holds a Juris Doctorate and Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Alabama School of Law, a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (Accounting) from Auburn University, and serves as an adjunct instructor of Business Law and Accounting for Athens State University.
