Rich Halfmann is Vice President and Senior Commercial Underwriting Counsel for First American Title Insurance Company and is a member of First American Corporate Underwriting Department and Shared Commercial Underwriting Team. In this role, he underwrites commercial transactions of all shapes and sizes.

Before joining First American in 2015, Rich was claims counsel and commercial underwriting counsel for other national title insurance underwriters. Before joining the title insurance industry, Rich spent three years in private practice searching and examining real estate titles and representing buyers, sellers, and lenders in transactions involving mortgage foreclosures, REO, sales, purchases, and refinances.

Rich is a member of the American Land Title Association (ALTA) and is on the leadership committee for the ALTA Commercial Network. Rich is a frequent speaker at ALTA ONE, the ALTA Commercial Network, and other industry events, and has represented the title insurance industry as an observer for Uniform Law Commission drafting committees. Rich is also a frequent speaker at First American’s conferences and training seminars.

Rich is a graduate of Stonehill College (2005) and Suffolk University Law School (2008) and is licensed to practice law in Massachusetts. He lives in South Carolina with his wife and three children.
